The Meta Ads Moment I Didn’t See Coming

The Meta Ads Moment I Didn’t See Coming

When Marketing Comes Full Circle

You know those moments that stop you in your tracks? The ones that remind you why you do what you do?

That happened to me recently at Inbound in San Francisco. I’d just wrapped a night at one of the after-hours events when I spotted someone across the room who looked familiar. As I was getting ready to leave, I realized he’d been part of the Meta Ads Accelerator I faciliated last year, an eight-week program for Meta and HubSpot.
On the way out of an INBOUND event, I hear, “Hey Des, I was in your accelerator!”
We laughed, caught up, and I asked what every strategist wants to know: “How are your Meta ads doing?”
His answer? “Still going strong.”
He shared how his team had implemented most things we covered, and how its connected inside HubSpot and that it’s doing exactly what it was supposed to. That was the moment it hit me. A whole year later, this person was still running the playbook I curated for the Accelerator.

Why That Moment Mattered

It wasn’t about recognition. It was about impact.
In a world where marketing moves fast, it’s easy to jump from one client, campaign, or deadline to the next without looking back. But hearing someone’s success story, long after the workshop ended, reminded me that teaching strategy isn’t just about the slides or frameworks. It’s about planting something that keeps growing.
And as it turns out, he’s local and we’ve already met in person, had conversations about all-things marketing.

The Real Lesson

Here’s what that moment reinforced for me:
  • Consistency compounds. When you keep testing, refining, and measuring, the results build over time.
  • Community multiplies reach. One conversation at a late-night event turned into a new connection and a full-circle moment.
  • Celebration matters. Sometimes, you need to stop and recognize how far you’ve come and how much the work you do impacts others.
